! ! ! PLEASE VIEW THE SITE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE PROCEEDING ! ! !
I'm a big fan of getting to the point so I'll keep it short and sweet:
CONTROL BAR
Many top level elements of this site are configurable. These confirurations use cookies, so to use the configuration features you must enable cookies in your browser (for this website: www.naglma.com). At the top of your browser window you will see a control bar with the elements Res (resolution), AJAX (ajax browsing), Flash (show flash content) and Conn (connection speed).
Controls with the SET link, must be set by clicking SET before they become active in your browsing experience.
All controls, when set will refresh the contents of the website to its home page.

RESOLUTION
|
The resolution of this site is configurable. You may increase/decrease the width of the viewing area. The height is sized through a function of this width measurement and the content on the page.
Setting the resolution does not increase or decrease the size of the text. Instead, this website is designed to work with the function of your browser to increase/decrease text size. This allows for the site to be displayed on high def (2000+ pixel width) and low def (500- pixel width) with appropriately configured browser text size while keeping the integrity of the site's layout.

I like to sit far away from my computer, but I would like to keep my eyesite, so I increase the resolution and then increase the browsers text size. This allows me to sit up to 6 feet away from my computer screen on 19 inch screens and up to 20 feet away on large hi-def displays.

AJAX
|
AJAX is a method of programming which incorperates JavaScript and web server requests to create a different kind of browser experience. AJAX browsing involves replacing only the contents of the page that need to be replaced when a link is clicked. In general AJAX browsing will be faster than normal browsing, however you may be surprised to find out that many of the browsers normal functions do not work as expected when using AJAX browsing - in particular, the BACK and REFRESH buttons. Since AJAX browsing does not change the browser's last known location, and these buttons work off of that location, these buttons become useless when using AJAX browsing.
AJAX browsing requires the use of JavaScript and XMLHttpRequest. Not all web browsers support this. Although browsing will work in AJAX mode with these browsers, it will not be AJAX browsing.
Firefox's Firebug software will eat memory when using AJAX browsing. You should be aware of this, if my site seems to freeze up.

One of the biggest lags in web page response time is the processing of a web page's header information. When using AJAX browsing, the headers are never sent in the response, and your browser never needs to process them.

FLASH
|
Many of the general pages on this site contain Flash animations. Sometimes this can hog a resources, therefore, you may turn Flash on/off according to your preference. The focus of some pages on this site is to display Flash animations - in this case, the Flash will be delivered even if Flash is turned off.
|
CONNECTION
|
This setting will determine whether to show certain images or animations. The focus of some pages on this site is to display images and animations - in this case, the content will be delivered even if the connection speed is set to slow.

My name is Mark Howard Nagle - NAGLe, MArk - NAGLMA - IV /-\ 6 I_ IVI /-\. www.naglma.com is a custom built website used to demonstrate my abilities as a Software Engineer. You can also check out my life and become a part of my creative interests.
I can be what is called a code hacker (in my own right). I get involved with something and have the instant lust to automate it - hopefully coming as close to the subject and method of automation as I can get. I guess I'm lucky in that my knowledge of computer systems allows me to build the tools that I need to get me where I want to go.
You may notice several very interesting fractal images (visualizations of sets in the complex number system) while you browse this site. All of these images where produced by a piece of software that I wrote (custom built C++) to view and animate these types of images. In fact, an interface to that software resides on this web site, so you can create your own fractal images IN HI-DEF!
